Families receive food hampers

Kwa-Thema – One hundred families from Kwa-Thema received grocery donations from the Masimong Foundation on Tuesday.
This was part of the NPO’s outreach programme to help underprivileged families, especially those whose livelihoods have been affected by Covid-19.

Founder Mike Teke said the foundation sponsors orphanages and old age homes around the country.
“Because I grew up in Kwa-Thema and had the opportunity to experience the depth of poverty in the area first-hand growing up, I promised myself that I will share the little I have with my community.
“At the beginning of lockdown, we decided to start a food parcel project to assist those in need.
“Every month since March we have been distributing food in and around Kwa-Thema.
“Some of the donations were made in the Vaal and Kriel areas.
“In April we also decided to make a contribution to the Ekurhuleni Food Bank in Springs,” he said.
Besides the food parcel project, the Masimong Foundation has been running one of their biggest projects since 2008 at Fred Habedi Primary School, where Teke attended school.

“We sponsor the school with library books and equipment.
“We have also hired a full-time librarian for the school and every June donate school jerseys and shoes to the school.
“Every year we hold an award function for the top achievers who receive shopping vouchers.
“Our goal is to empower people in every way possible and to lend a helping hand to those in need,” he said.
