Twenty-seven-year-old Andile Saliso said: “To avoid buying things people do not want or need I always ask them directly what they want.

“If you do not tell me what it is you want then you have no reason to be upset with whatever I give you,” said Saliso.
Abigail Mokhombo said for her it is the thought that counts.
“I think we need to learn to be appreciative for the mere fact that someone thought of buying you something shows they care. Not everyone can afford expensive gifts and not everyone receives gifts,” said Mokhombo.
For Shane Mokoena, the worst that could happen is two people buying the same present for the same person.

“We need to start being open about gifts and who is buying what and for whom because in the past my sister and I once bought my mom the same gift and we both had lost the receipts.
“Which is why I am reluctant about buying gifts. I now give gift cards,” said Mokoena.
