Three arrested for possession of drugs, ammo

“It is important to organise counselling and whatever is needed to help these girls and their families through this ordeal."

Three men were arrested for possession of drugs and ammunition in Everest on Tuesday morning.

The arrests followed a complaint to police from a woman that her 18-year-old daughter had absconded into one of the shacks, leaving behind a six-month-old baby.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for Springs police, members of the station’s Crime Prevention Unit then visited the shack in question.

Officers found the teenager and four other young women between the ages of 17 and 20.

Two men, aged 27 and 37, were also inside the shack

Officers discovered ammunition and crystal meth with a street value of about R1 300.

It is alleged the young women were forced to sell the drugs as payment for their own drug usage.

Another man (20) found in the vicinity was also found in possession of ammunition.

“The parents of the young women and social workers were called.
