Springs Corporate League enjoys smooth start to season

Springs Corporate League PRO Mncedisi Ntuli says the season has started positively, with improved team commitment and exciting football for supporters.

Three weeks into the season, the Springs Corporate League is progressing smoothly. According to the league’s PRO, Mncedisi Ntuli, the competition has got off to a strong start.

On May 15, Angelo Kater secured a 6-1 victory against SG Gyproc, while PFG drew 2-2 against Jachris.

Ntuli said one of the biggest improvements this season has been team attendance and player registration compliance.

“It has been a positive start in terms of all the teams attending their games, whereas in previous seasons we had teams that didn’t show up or put up a team on matchday,” he said.

He explained that the league strictly enforces its rules, including the requirement that at least seven players representing a company must be employed by that company while on the field.

Ntuli said the league has also improved the control and registration of players to strengthen its fair play mandate.

Although supporter turnout has been slower than expected, Ntuli believes the winter season and limited daylight hours have contributed to the challenge.

“Normally, it’s a good environment to come chill after a long week at work and watch workmates or family strut their stuff on a Friday afternoon,” he said.

He added that there is room to grow supporter attendance through mainstream media exposure and a stronger social media presence.

Last Friday’s fixtures produced plenty of entertainment, with 11 goals scored across two league matches.

“There’s no lack of entertainment. Teams are here to score and fight for the prize at the end of the season,” Ntuli said.

The two cup fixtures also delivered drama, with both matches going to penalty shootouts. Supreme Spring and Transnet emerged victorious and will meet in the final on a date yet to be confirmed.
Ntuli also highlighted improvements made for match officials.

“Our refs, which we employ ourselves as another initiative to support our communities, have had an increase in incentives,” he said.

When asked which team has stood out so far this season, Ntuli praised McCain’s strong start.

“They are always very competitive every season. This season they seem to have stepped up one gear,” he said.

Ntuli encouraged supporters and the wider community to attend matches and experience the atmosphere for themselves.

“We urge you to give our league a chance. Just an hour of your time and you can never be disappointed,” he said.
