Springs Rugby Club U21 team stuns with 100-0 victory
The U21 side led with a massive 100–0 win as Springs Rugby Club secured victories across all three home fixtures against East Rand United.
Springs Rugby Club enjoyed a dominant day on home grounds on Saturday, recording a clean sweep of victories against East Rand United (ERU).
The U21 side set the tone with a stellar opening performance, securing a commanding 100–0 win.
The second team followed with an impressive 47–8 victory, while the first team ended the day in style, overpowering ERU 70–5.
Speaking to the Springs Advertiser, Springs’ U21 coach, Alan Chapman, said he was particularly impressed with the attack shape the boys held in open play, which allowed them to attack from all areas of the field.
“Maintaining dominance showed us that we as a team can actually play rugby for a solid 80 minutes,” he said.
He added that, despite the scoreline, the first time tackling needs some improvement.

“As coaches, we always feel that there are areas to work on, but after the display today, we are happy with the progress we have made on the attack,” Chapman shared.
Chapman explained that one of the factors they focused on during training was securing the ball at the breakdown, which the players executed well.
“We need to stay humble and go back to the drawing board for the upcoming game against Benoni.
“Each game has a new, new opponent, new challenges, and we have to prepare accordingly. We cannot get bigger than the game,” he concluded.
ERU’s U21 coach, V’Cushio Ruiters, said he felt his players did well considering this was only their second game.
“Springs has youngsters who have used play together for years. At school and club level.
“You could clearly pick it up in their way of play. Unfortunately, our team still needs to be groomed,” he said.
He also reflected on the positive moments.
“There were instances in the game where we applied what we did at the practice field.
“We have a mixture of players, including youngsters who only started playing rugby this year. Them just playing the full game was a big positive for me,” he said.
He added that with practice and consistency, the team will improve.
“There’s still a lot of hard work to do. It can only be done on the training field.
“We know as a team what our end goal is. We should remain positive and work harder at what we do. I’m positive that things will change and the team will rise to greater heights,” he said.
