Ranked 17th in his division for 70.3 Iron Man

He finished the run in a time of 01:42:39 and his overall time was 04:58:06

Gerald Snell from eMalahleni went to East London to compete in the Standard Bank 70.3 Iron Man where he did exceptionally well.

The race took place on Sunday, January 27 on the beautiful beach front of East London (Buffalo City), a gateway to the popular Eastern Cape tourist routes, the Sunshine Coast and Wild Coast.

It was an early start in the morning on the beach front with a 1.9km swim in the ocean, this year the swim was made shorter due to the bad weather that morning.

Gerald knew he needed to do his best with rough seas and he finished the swim in a time of 00:21:46.

From the swim he went into the transition area to get ready for his bike ride, and was out in 00:04:09.

Onto his bike for the 90.1km cycle, he worked hard on the bike as he wanted to make up time for his run that was next.

Just starting the bike ride on Sunday, January 27, is Gerald Snell.

The wind was gusting and it made the cycle real difficult, but Gerald just kept his head down and cycled hard.

He managed to finish his cycle in a time of 02:47:10; once he was off his bike he ran into the transition area to change his shoes to his running shoes and was out onto the road in a time of 00:02:22.

A 21.1km run was the last disciplined to be completed for this 70.3 Iron Man; Gerald had a good pace going and he remained strong.
