Skills development at the Hockey Farm
The sessions were run by myself, as I am one of the level two coaches in the area
Hockey is a sport loved and played by many.
On Sunday 10 March the sixth and final Nkangala skills practice took place for all the provincial players in our region.
“The aim of these skills sessions was to teach all our provincial players both technical and tactical skills involved with the sport of hockey. The technical skills we focused on were forehand receiving, passing, defending skills like the jab, block tackle and channelling, elimination skills like the pull and safety turn and then goal-scoring skills like the short grip hit and deflections. These are the fundamental skills that we, as Mpumalanga Hockey, wanted to make sure each of our provincial players has in their skill set. The sessions were run by myself, as I am one of the level two coaches in the area, and the coaches that assisted were mostly the provincial coaches of our u12 and u13 teams for 2019,” explained Tyler Calitz, “we also had Charlize Swanepoel coaching all our provincial goalkeepers; she is currently the Senior Mpumalanga Ladies provincial goalkeeper for indoor and outdoor hockey.”
