Stealing a sense of security

Thieves have grown bold this festive season stealing motor gates and their batteries.

According to social media a number of motor gate and motor gate battery thefts have occurred over the past week.
Witbank Wall of Fame and Shame page on Facebook has been bustling with the news of stolen motor gates and batteries yet according to police there have been little to no reports of these thefts or damages to property.
The thefts have been taking place in Highveld Park and Del Judor with reports coming in that the homes in Ingrid and Prinsberg streets are being targeted.

A metal bracket housing encases the motor gate, offering more security against theft.

According to Bloggie Enslin thieves broke the bracket mountings of the motor gate and were able to steal the batteries at least four times over the period of seven months, the thefts however stopped after he mounted a steel plate in front of the motor gate housing.

“The number of these thefts is difficult to estimate however with the festive season approaching we envisage that the theft of motor gates will increase as people leave for holiday,” said Capt Eddie Hall, Witbank Police communications.

The police urge the community to safeguard their motor gates against theft and also urge the community not to buy any stolen motors from these criminals.
The police request that the community reports these crimes.
