With the festive season comes the usual break-ins and eMalahleni had not been spared.
On December 28 a man was assaulted and his cell phone, laptop and vehicle was robbed.
The vehicle was found, but it was not a happy ending for the victim as the vehicle was torched.
Not even an hour later a bakkie was hijacked in the Central Business District.
It is unknown if the bakkie was recovered.

A new tendency is sticking out its ugly head.
Criminals are breaking open electricity distribution boxes and switching off power to targeted houses and buildings. They wait for the alarm and electric fence backup battery to run down before they make their move and break in.
“Please be on the lookout for open electricity distribution boxes and keep an eye on your neighbours house if they are away. Contact them and report if the power all off a sudden goes off,” said Ms Madelon Trotskie from the Community Policing Forum.
