Early morning claims a life
At approximately 05:30, the pedestrian took his chances and ran across the N4- highway.

As the sun rose to announce another day, a pedestrian was fatally wounded in a pedestrian accident. On Monday, August 8 at approximately 05:30, the pedestrian took his chances and ran across the N4- highway.
“I was on my way to work at Kusile PowerStation when the accident happened. I did not see the pedestrian until he was right in front of my vehicle. I tried to swerve, but unfortunately it was too late. It happened at the Kwa-Guqa bridge,” Mr Derick Kgwedi, driver of the minibus said on Tuesday.
“I don’t know why pedestrians do this, it is very dangerous. There was also a lot of damage to my vehicle,” he concluded.
This accident captured the attention of many passers-by and everyone stood in shock, watching the lifeless body on the cold winter grass. Pathology arrived on scene, just before 08:00 and the body was taken to the forensics department.

The minibus involved in the accident on the N4- highway on Monday, August 8.
No confirmation was received whether the body has been identified, by the time of print.
Another incident claimed a life, on the N4- highway towards Middelburg. According to police, a silver Chevrolet Spark was parked next to the road upon their arrival at the scene on Saturday, August 6. An interview with the driver of the vehicle stated that he was driving on the highway when the pedestrian just walked in front of the vehicle. The accident was inevitable and the pedestrian did not survive the injuries he sustained.
Capt Eddie Hall, police spokesperson urges pedestrians to rather use the bridge built for them on the N4- highway.
“The bridge was built exactly for this reason and to prevent accidents like this from occurring. I also want to urge pedestrians to not take chances and run across the highway, this is extremely dangerous and numerous deaths have been reported, with exactly this cause. It is very unsafe and we encourage alternative ways to cross the highway,” Capt Hall concluded.
