“It has been referred to the responsible Director to investigate and based on that we will be in a position to provide a response. Let me however state that such an incident is very sad and we will do what we can to prevent these incidents. Open manholes remain a problem and although we are replacing stolen and broken manholes on a regular basis, some are left open for some time. I will based on the report from the technical directorate be able to respond on this specific case but also on how we can assure that other similar incidents are minimised,” said Mr Theo van Vuuren Municipal Manager from Emalahleni City Council.
