In recent investigations it was found that the mielies were wrongfully seized and now the question lies, where have the mielies gone?

Earlier this year police acted on information regarding the theft of R3-million worth of stolen mielies, recently it was discovered that the mielies weren’t stolen.
On April 25 police received a complaint that there had been a theft of mielies and headed out to a plot near Kendal where the mielies were suspected to have been taken.
On arrival police discovered a wheelbarrow with four full bags of mielies, they questioned the suspect who claimed he was off to sell the mielies.

On further inspection of the plot the police found a large stock of mielies estimated to be valued at R1-million.
63 Bags of mielies were recovered to the value of R1.5-million. The suspect that was arrested claimed that he bought the mielies from an auction but when asked could not provide the necessary paperwork to prove the transaction.
Additional investigation of the premises lead to the recovery of another stock of mielies bringing the total value of the stolen stock to an estimated R3-million worth.
