Rev. Fred Shaw – A man who served the purpose of God in his generation

All those who knew Rev Shaw and wish to thank God for his life are invited to attend his funeral at 10:30 on Thursday, 20 October at the Witkerk, 42B Walter Sisulu Street

The much loved and deeply respected Rev. Fred Shaw sadly passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday evening in Midmed Hospital after a short illness. Rev Shaw has been faithfully serving the Lord Jesus Christ in Middelburg since 1969. He is especially dear to the members of the Christ-confessing Methodist Church who are now mourning his death. He played an instrumental role in the establishment of not only the Christ-Confessing Methodist Church but also Cambridge Academy and the planting of churches in Mhluzi, Witbank, Pretoria and Nelspruit. Many Kragbron listeners will also be familiar with Rev Shaw who regularly delivered devotional messages.

He was called by God from the tender age of 4 and as a young man dedicated his entire life to serving God. During his school years, he was often found preaching to his fellow students and led many to a lasting relationship with Christ. He was invited to preach in the United States, England, Europe and New Zealand where he faithfully defended the Word of God, never compromising on the true message of the Bible. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his dedication to this cause.

In 1969, he was commissioned to Middelburg by the Methodist Church where he built up a dwindling congregation to a flourishing work with several satellite churches. He tirelessly served the Lord Jesus Christ often preaching up to seven times a week. In 1975, he went on to form the Christian League of Southern Africa – an organisation which opposed the subverting of Scripture for political purposes. Later, the Lord called him to begin a new work in Middelburg where the Christ-confessing Methodist Church was established.

The Lord Jesus Christ was Rev Shaw’s passion and his life was poured out in His service. In a Christ-denying world he stood for the truth no matter the cost.
