Avril Street needs serious attention
The condition of the roads in eMalahleni is becoming a bigger headache, even causing accidents
Potholes have been in the spotlight for the past few weeks as the pressure on the municipality becomes heavier.
Avril Street in Die Heuwel Ext 1 is a real sore eye for residents living in the street and for visitors a turnaround point.
Allegedly the road has been in this condition for over four years.
Some holes have been filled and financed by residents, but it is just not been enough.
There are some parts of the road where there is nothing but dirt and grass growing tall.

Juan Swanepoel, a resident in Avril Street said: “The bottom part of the road has been in this condition for four years and the top part for almost two years. You can’t even drive on the road; my parents financed to fill a few holes in the road a while back, but that is the only action that was taken up to this point.”
WITBANK NEWS went out to Avril Street.
The grass growing in the road is close to two meters tall.

One of the residents Ms Driekie Louw said, “The wheel alignment of my car is all out, thanks to the condition of the road. Driving this road every day is causing more damages to my car. We even had to help another resident with a flat tyre just a week ago. I have been complaining at the municipality for years to fix the road and no action up to this point.”
The condition of the roads in eMalahleni is becoming a bigger headache, even causing accidents; this happened on the corner of Botha and Hofmeyer Street on Saturday evening, February 6.
In a previous article Dixon Street and Gasel Avenue in Extension 18 was also mentioned and the condition of the road has even gotten worse due to the rainfall where the cars are crossing lanes to get past the potholes.
When will the municipality make the roads in eMalahleni a priority?
