Residences are being warned to be careful when using ATMs and social media
Brig Ndlovu further urged people not to trust any individual with their money when using ATMs

Warning to be careful when using ATMs and social media eMalahleni residents are being warned to be careful when using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and social media.
This warning comes after several cases of fraud have been reported at Vosman Police Station recently.
Vosman Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu says the first incident was reported on May 2 where the victim indicated that he was at a local shopping complex around 08:00 at the ATM.

Brigadier Lindani told Witbank News that according to the victim he was at the ATM, two unknown men have approached him, and they distracted him while his transaction was in progress.
However, he managed to stop the transaction, and he took his card.
“The complainant has managed to stop the card from processing the transaction, but it was already too late because there was an amount withdrawn from his card. Therefore, I urge people to be vigilant when they’re at the ATMs, they should not ask for help from strangers,” said Brig Ndlovu.
It was reported again that another incident has occurred on May 5 at Matthew Phosa Drive in Vosman.
The complainant alleged that he deposited some money into the account of a person who was selling a car on social media, and he was surprised later when the seller told him to further deposit money and that’s when he realized that he was scammed.
Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu calls the community to exercise extreme precautionary measures when using ATMs and to refrain from rushing into depositing money to the people whom they just met on social media. Brig Ndlovu further urged people not to trust any individual with their money when using ATMs.
He added by saying people should approach credible outlets when they want to purchase property and not trust bogus social media salespersons.
