‘Voice note and message is not from us,’ says The Funeral Home

A voice note and message is causing panic in the city.

A voice note and message is going viral on the social media platform WhatsApp and is causing havoc and panic in the city.

In the voice note, a man is telling people that many people are dying of Covid. “I myself this morning had to fetch two people who died while sitting in a car in front of a doctor’s consulting room, but didn’t even make it inside.”

He further goes on to tell people that he went to fetch four more bodies and that hospital mortuaries are full, as is theirs (presumably that of a funeral home).

The man then says that the situation (Covid) is getting ugly and tells “Angeline” to send the message through and that a woman by the name of “Madelein” is also going to be tested. He even started to cry while telling people how bad the situation is and that everyone must start praying. The voice note is being sent around with a message underneath that says: “This message is from Neels Koekemoer, the owner of the Funeral Home here in Witbank.”

Mr Neels Koekemoer who is the owner of Funeral Home in a statement said that the voice message is definitely not from him or any of his employees. “I did not send any voice note or message and strongly condemns this act which is bringing The Funeral Home in disrepute and is causing damage to the business.

Sadly, someone out there is using social media to cause havoc and panic in an already stressful situation. The Funeral Home is distancing itself from this deceitful message.

“I would like to inform the public that we are totally in control and there to assist the next of kin with respect and dignity in any situation concerning the death of a loved one, like we have always done,” Mr Koekemoer concluded.
