Body of a man found in a drain in Hlalanikahle

The cause of the man’s death has not yet been confirmed.

The body of an unknown man was found in a water drain in the early hours of Monday at Hlalanikahle Extension 3.

The man who was believed to be a local community member was found in the open drain by a passerby who alerted the police. The body was found on Monday, February 7 between 04:00 and 05:00.

The open drain is near a busy road and the slab supposed to cover it was put on the side.

One of the open water drains in Hlalanikahle in Extension 3; it’s believed that the slabs closing the drain have been removed because they were mounted on steel that has been ripped off to sell to scrapyards.

The slabs are mounted on steel which was found to have been ripped off.

According to residents, the steel is being sold to scrapyards.

Bloodstains were found near the drain.

Some witnesses said they heard gunshots in the early morning hours, but it could not be confirmed by the police.

The cause of death is not known at this stage and the police are investigating a case of murder.
