John Sithole, eMalahleni’s own street florist
Roses are red, violets are blue and John’s flowers is in bloom

“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden,” this quote of Frances Hodgson Burnett is the life of John Sithole, our city’s street florist.
John is a well-known face in eMalahleni and famous for the flowers he sells at the intersection of Hans Strydom and Steve Bantu Biko Avenue.
WITBANK NEWS took a trip with John to learn what life is all about in his ‘garden’ and wow, what a story he shared!
“I’m in the industry of selling flowers since 1995 here in eMalahleni, like all other jobs we all start small and from scratch. My lifelong job turned out to be a passion as an artist with flowers,” said John.
The passion of waking up and smelling the flowers did not stop by him as his son, Richmond Sithole grew fond of flowers and flower arrangements at an early age.
“My son is the street florist in Middelburg and is proud to carry on with our legacy. Although my daughter that just matriculated wants to go the other way job-wise, we all have such big love for flowers,” he added.
As a florist, it’s difficult to pick your ultimate favorite flower, but without a doubt, John states that he is “totally in love with a red rose.”
“With the grace of our God I could support my family while I was living out my passion while raising my children too,” he added humbly.
Although this is the only job John ever knew, he concluded with a powerful saying that will stick, “If you love what you are doing, you will never work a day in your life.”
