The Ridge Casino in association with the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will be a hive of colour and survivor stories next weekend.
The two entities will be hosting a Shavathon in the food court from 10:00 to 15:00 on Saturday, March 5.
All donations will go towards Cansa’s care and support programmes for patients, caregivers, and loved ones.
This is the 19th national Cansa Shavathon campaign, independently managed by Cansa staff and volunteers.
In keeping with this year’s ‘Be colourful’ theme, colouring or spraying your hair are creative ways to show your support and, more importantly, achieve the same goal!
Show your support by bringing your loved ones along.
The options are endless – a small donation of R50 for adults and R25 for kids means you can shave, spray or stencil your hair, or go even all out and do all three.
There is a ‘bailout option’ for those who can’t say goodbye to their locks.
You can still get in on the Shavathon action by paying a ‘Bail out fee’. There are three options to participate with a R50 (or more) donation which can be made:

- Via Snapscan
- Via Quicket
Cansa is committed to connecting people facing cancer with information, day-to-day help as well as emotional support they need in the communities where they live. They aim to ensure that cancer survivors and their loved ones don’t have to face cancer alone.
Donations help them to continue the fight against cancer in South Africa bringing them closer to the challenge of a cancer-free society within our generation. For those who like to be actively engaged and to make a difference, the support of volunteers is also invaluable.
Ms Odelia Sharp, general manager of The Ridge Casino shared some insight into why The Ridge is hosting a Shavathon this year: “Cansa provides a unique, integrated service to all people affected by cancer. This non-profit organisation enables research on the lowering of cancer risk, educating the public regarding symptoms, screening and risk reduction, and providing care and support to all people affected by cancer. It is our privilege to be a part of this campaign and we hope that the residents of our eMalahleni community will show their support generously.”
