Community members now live in fear after the increasing number of armed robberies was reported over the past weekend.
Residents are not only harassed for their belongings, but their lives are constantly threatened with firearms.
Walking around the vicinity of the City of Coal is no longer safe, as the first victim was allegedly walking with a friend to her school accommodation residence on Sunday, October 2.
Two unknown suspects allegedly approached the victims when one suspect took out a firearm and pointed it at them before demanding their phones.
The suspects snatched their cellphones and ran away afterwards; the suspects were identified and apprehended by the police.
The second victim was said to be on the N4 at Highveld Mall, at approximately 21:45 with a group of fellow students after attending an event.
It is alleged that the group was inside the building when they were instructed by the security next to News Café to go outside.
The suspects allegedly found them standing outside and proceeded to threaten them with a firearm before stealing their cellphones and money.
Be it early in the morning or later at night, robbers in eMalahleni are always on the lookout for their next victim.
One victim, in particular, was allegedly walking from a local shop with his headsets on Plumer Street when he was approached by two males who pointed a firearm at him whilst the other forcefully searched him, and took his cellphone before fleeing the scene; the suspects were allegedly later arrested.
Gone are the days when community members could freely walk around their neighbourhood without fear or hesitation.
At around 10:30 on Saturday, October 1, the alleged victim was walking at King George Park when he came across two males.
It is believed that one of the suspects took out a firearm, bridged and pointed it at the victim.
The one suspect began searching the victim, and helping himself to an undisclosed amount of cash.
