Young swimmers shine at the second Nkangala District gala
Young swimmers enthusiastically displayed their newly acquired talents at the gala, which was a vibrant affair that echoed with cheers.
Robert Carruthers School hosted the second Nkangala District Learn-to-Swim Gala for 2023, bringing together 103 excited swimmers aged five to 17. They made a big splash with 278 entries.

Learners from different schools, like Bhukudani Kids, CR Swart, Middelburg Primary, and others, joined in the fun on Saturday, November 11.

The event was more than just swimming; it showed off new talent and a strong community spirit.

Experienced swimmers acted as lifeguards, helping those feeling nervous turn their worries into triumphs.

Elsabé Boyd Robinson from Nkangala District said, “It was very relaxed; there was a great atmosphere. Kids and parents enjoyed it, and the kids wanted to join more events as they got more confident. The seahorse race and tube race were hits, and the scrunch relay was the favourite. Lifeguards were a hit too, inspiring some to keep practising. Parents loved the concept of safety.”
