Prison warden in eMalahleni arrested on drug-related charges

The prison warden will face the court again on Monday, November 20.

A 58-year-old prison warden of Correction Services in eMalahleni will appear before Witbank Magistrate’s Court next week on a charge of possession of drugs.

He was released on bail after his first brief appearance in court earlier today (Friday, November 17) after he was arrested on Wednesday, November 15.

He will appear again on Monday, November 20.

According to information from police, the suspect was on duty when his superior visited him at the main gate of the prison.

The supervisor became suspicious when he saw the suspect’s trouser pockets were packed full.

Drugs worth R15 000 were allegedly found in his possession.

“Investigations are continuing to determine whether the drugs were destined for inmates at Paxton prison,” said local police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall.
