You can find out the inspiration behind the group’s latest single “What We Got” from the the following Q&A with Prime Circle founder and bassist Marco Gomes.
Q&A with Marco Gomes
Can you share the inspiration behind “What We Got”? What message are you hoping to convey through the song?
A: When writing the song, we wanted to talk about when someone has feelings for another person, but those feelings aren’t reciprocated. The song is about asking, “Am I wasting my time? Where is this going?” It’s basically about the uncertainty of love and relationships.
How does “What We Got” differ from your previous singles, both musically and thematically?
A: “Better Days” is more mid-tempo and upbeat compared to “What We Got”, which is softer. “Better Days” was more about perseverance, while “What We Got” deals with love and relationships.
The song has a really catchy hook – how did the songwriting process for this track unfold? Was it a group effort?
A: It wasn’t even meant to be a songwriting session. We were in my home studio, just messing around, and it turned into a song. It just came together naturally without us even planning to write it.
“What We Got” feels like a song that resonates with themes of unity and connection. Can you talk about how these themes reflect where you are as a band?
A: It definitely reflects where we are as a band. We’ve always been about connection, and our journey as a band has brought out a lot of creativity and new ideas, including this track.
What was the recording process like for this track? Any interesting stories from the studio?
A: This time around, we wrote music without any restrictions. We used to have barriers about how something should sound, but this time, we let all of that go and just wrote what we felt. It made the process much more open and enjoyable.
How do you feel “What We Got” fits into the overall sound and evolution of Prime Circle? Does it mark a new direction for the band?
A: It doesn’t mark a new direction; it’s still very much a Prime Circle song. Our style has always been broad, from acoustic rock to hard rock, and this song fits well within our genre.
What do you hope fans will take away from listening to “What We Got”?
A: We hope fans appreciate the honesty of the song. It’s about love, connection, and uncertainty, which are universal themes.
Are there any specific influences – musical or personal – that shaped the creation of this single?
A: Our experiences as a band have definitely shaped this song. We’ve been through a lot, and it’s sparked creativity and new ideas in our songwriting.
“What We Got” seems like it would be a great song to play live. How excited are you to perform it on tour, and what can fans expect from your live shows?
A: We’re very excited to perform it live. The energy Gavin brings to the stage definitely forces the rest of us to get involved. Fans can expect a more structured and energetic show, with a lot of interaction and passion.
With the release of “What We Got”, are there any other upcoming projects or surprises that fans can look forward to from Prime Circle?
A: We’ve been working on new music, and we’ve decided not to rush things. Instead, we’re focusing on quality and making sure the product is right before we release it. Fans can expect more singles, potentially a double release, early next year.
