Zzzzzzzzz in the afternoon is a good idea

Individual sleep needs may vary, and it is important to pay attention to your body’s signals to determine the right amount of sleep for you.

“You need to get enough sleep.”

That was the message from the keynote speaker at the BNI Generator chapter weekly meeting held on November 14.

Dr André van Jaarsveld has been involved in the wellness industry for the last 30 years.

He was trained and accredited in Australia to become a Fitness for Work, Fatigue Management, and Sleep Consultant. He is also the initiator of the Better Sleep Solutions programme in South Africa, which assists people with sleeping problems.

“Sleep is crucial for overall well-being and is essential for various aspects of physical, mental, and emotional health,” Van Jaarsveld said.

He said that during sleep, the body undergoes a process of repair and restoration. Muscles, tissues and cells are repaired, and the body’s energy resources are replenished. This is important for physical health and recovery from daily wear and tear.

“Sleep is vital for cognitive functions such as memory consolidation, problem-solving, and learning. It helps organise and process information obtained during waking hours. Adequate sleep is essential for emotional regulation and mental health. A lack of sleep can lead to mood swings, increased stress, anxiety, and depression.”

Preeshini Naidoo Anirudh.

“Chronic sleep deprivation or poor sleep quality can have a detrimental impact on all these aspects of health and well-being. It is generally recommended that adults aim for seven to nine hours of quality sleep per night to reap the benefits of sleep and maintain optimal health. However, individual sleep needs may vary, and it is important to pay attention to your body’s signals to determine the right amount of sleep for you,” the doctor said.

This BNI chapter is now first on the Mpumalanga log with 46 members.

“We are changing the way we do business. BNI offers network opportunities, access to business training, and peer learning,” said Theo-Pierre Janse van Vuuren, president of BNI Generators.
