Local SPCA pleads for urgent assistance after week-long power outage
Donations can be dropped off at Pet and Pool Warehouse, Petzone and Total President in Mandela Road.
The SPCA has been without electricity for nearly a week, food supplies are running low, and the kennels are full.
The municipality said the ongoing power outage lasted much longer than they anticipated.
The delay in restoration is due to a complex fault on the municipal network.
“The delay in restoration is due to a complex fault on the municipal network, worsened by adverse weather conditions and the need for specialised spare parts to complete the cable repairs,” they responded in a statement.
The municipality said the technical team is prioritising this matter and will continue checking the site.
Carika van Rooyen from the SPCA said, “We really need help. We urgently need food for the dogs and cats. If someone could donate solar lights it would be highly appreciated as it is very dark on the premises at night. The staff staying on the premises has to make do without warm water and with the cold predicted this weekend they can’t stay warm.”
She said the kennels are overfull and they are not keeping up at the moment with the number of animals coming in.
