12 alleged foreigners stay behind bars – their case was postponed to next week

Nationwide, Vala Umgodi operations led to the arrest of 1 733 suspects of different nationalities this past month.

The case of 12 suspects who were arrested at the Middleburg Tollgate because it is believed that they were illegal immigrants was postponed.

The suspects’ next court appearance will be on April 15.

They are charged with the Contravention of Immigration Act.

The suspects appeared in Witbank Magistrate Court on April 8, and the case was postponed for further investigation.

According to police, the men were arrested during Operation Vala Umgodi when a stop-and-search was conducted.

The men are between 18 and 37 years old.

Police Investigators have collaborated with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the arrested suspects.
