eMalahleni hijackers wait for you at the gate where your stop is guaranteed.
“Hijacking is an extreme sport in the city” – This statement was made by a reader when another motorist was hijacked from his employer’s car in Siyanqoba.
The incident occurred on June 11.
The man told the police that he had stopped at the gate of a residence, where he noticed a man wearing a balaclava allegedly pointing a firearm at him from the passenger’s side, demanding him to open the window.
The man said he opened the window, only for him to notice another man allegedly pointing him with a firearm also. The hijackers demanded him to unlock his doors, and as he did, they then took his car keys.
The man told police that a third man then joined the crew and got inside the car. The victim was ordered to lie on the ground, where he was searched and asked if he had a firearm in his possession. The hijackers took his cellphone and cash.
As he was still lying on the ground, the man recounted that he was kicked and shots were fired into the air before the hijackers fled the scene with his vehicle. The man told the police that the vehicle belonged to his employer.
“Comply and remain calm. Your life is worth more than anything,” said Witbank Police Spokesperson, Sergeant David Ratau.
