Man arrested for alleged sexual assault

Mother’s quick action uncovers alleged sexual assault of minor after her disappearance

A disturbing incident has left a young child traumatised after allegedly being sexually assaulted.

According to the police, the child’s mother reported her daughter missing on Thursday, July 3, at approximately 17:00, from their home. Upon realising her daughter was not in the yard, the mother began searching nearby properties and was informed by a neighbour that a man known to the mother had taken her daughter to his residence in Spring Valley.

Upon arriving at the suspect’s address, the mother called out for her daughter, who reportedly emerged crying and visibly distressed. The mother immediately brought her daughter home. During bath time, she noticed that the child appeared to be in pain when touched. After gently questioning her, the child allegedly disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted. An arrest has been made.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of SAPS Witbank, shares a few tips in such cases:
“Scream, yell, blow your whistle, or run away if you possibly can. Do not bathe or change your clothes after an attack. Keep all the evidence so that it can be used by the police for further investigation. Report the crime straight away. There are Victim Support programmes, psychologists, counsellors, health care or social workers, employers, friends, family, or church members who can provide you with some help. Ask the police official dealing with your case to recommend someone to help you.”
