3 days without electricity – eMalahleni residents are furious
The delays in the restoration process by the municipality had resulted from the sudden rain that brought the process to a standstill.
Today marks day three of no power in some areas of eMalahleni after two sub-stations caught fire.
The affected areas included Del Judor Extension 1 and 2, a portion of Del Judor Proper, Witbank Extension 5, 8, 16, 41, and Klipfontein Industrial.
The Emalahleni Local Municipality has recently released a statement stating that the new estimated restoration time for the new mini substation at Steenkamp Street is now eight hours, as the restoration process is underway in the area.
The restoration process was set to take about 12 hours. However, heavy rainfall struck the city, forcing the process to hit the brakes.
According to residents, they are finding it hard to believe that the restoration won’t be delayed once again.
“I left my kids in the house, they haven’t eaten, they haven’t bathed, and it’s dark inside the house,” said a resident in Extension 5, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Another resident said she had to throw all her meat. She added that this is not only a frustration but also a financial knock.
