Umlilo Wevangeli, in partnership with the Kasi Football League, recently held its successful third annual awards in recognition of players both academically and on the field.
Held on December 12, the Kasi Football League sports and education awards brought together parents and their young ones for a day of witnessing the outcomes of the youngsters’ efforts.
According to Sipho Themba, the chairperson of the Kasi Football League, they don’t want to see the boys end up in drugs due to not having anything else to keep them busy during their free time.
“We want our children to represent eMalahleni and the country in the football industry. We hope to see changes in our city through them,” Sipho said.
Among the players that were awarded, some represented teams such as KPM Academy, NSSD FC, Overline United, Sgwinya Konke FC, Vikings FC, C9 FC, and Ackerville United FC.
In the U17, winners included Bonginkosi Mashiya, who bagged the top goal scorer of the season title, followed by Thabiso Bodiba, defender of the season. Amogelang Mashigo, who bagged the player of the season, was followed by Mthunzi Nodede, who secured the goalkeeper of the season. Bonginkosi Mashiya didn’t only bag the top goal scorer of the season, he also bagged the midfield of the season title.
In the U14, Mava Sibiya won the midfield of the season title, followed by Sabelo Skhosane, who bagged the goalkeeper of the season. Fana Makwakwa secured the top goal scorer title, followed by Philip Nkosi who won the defender of the season.
Lehlohonolo Songame won the player of the season title.
Rorisang Ndlovu won the award for the youngest player of the season in the U14 and Waheed Mtsweni won the youngest player of the season in the U17.
In addition to the excitement, two coaches also proved that pros are made by pros as they won the coach of the season titles.
Tebelo Nyaka from Sgwinya Konke FC won the U14 coach of the season, with Themba Chief from the KPM Academy winning the U17 coach of the season.
In his closing remarks, Pastor Ray Mabena from Umlilo Wevangeli praised the wonderful efforts of both the players and coaches. Stating that they were also part of making the ceremony a success. He further advised them to always make positive choices in everything.

“We are so excited to have secured such achievements, and I am also happy for my players, not to forget our team that bagged the fourth trophy,” John Nkwana from Sgwinya Konke FC.
“We are one of the teams that are doing the most in the region. We are the best,” John added.
The Emalahleni Local Municipality Speaker of the council, Clr Nombuso Milicent Shabangu, graced the ceremony with her support.
According to the host, the third annual ceremony turned out as they had planned, and special thanks goes to their sponsors who made it a reality.
