Teen recovering after pit bull attack in Phola
Tumelo Mnguni is recovering well after a terrifying pit bull attack, and his family hopes for justice as he continues his road to healing.
The family of 16-year-old Tumelo Mnguni from Phola (Ogies) has expressed relief that he is recovering well after being attacked by a pit bull earlier this month.
Tumelo was discharged from the hospital on January 23; however, he has not yet been cleared to return to school. He went back for a medical check-up on January 26, where doctors confirmed that his injuries are healing well.
“Seeing him being discharged was a good sign,” said a family member, Ayanda Bheluza. “It shows that he is healing, and the doctors also told us he was lucky that the dog did not bite his veins.”
Tumelo was attacked on January 4 while standing with friends on Xaba Street. According to the family, the attack happened suddenly and without warning.
“A neighbour’s child came out with the dog when it suddenly attacked,” said Bheluza. “The dog bit him and dragged him away. It was a terrifying scene.”
The family said they are grateful for Tumelo’s recovery but remain deeply shaken by the incident. They are still waiting for a court date related to the attack.
“We are thankful he is alive and healing,” Bheluza said. “Now we just want justice to take its course.”
