Hlangu-Phala and Nkonjane lead the way as Emalahleni’s future energy champions

Hlangu-Phala and Nkonjane are Emalahleni’s energy-saving heroes of the future.

Hlangu-Phala Primary School and Nkonjane Combined School have emerged as the proud winners of the 2025/2026 Energy Efficiency Schools Competition, earning top honours for their outstanding commitment to responsible energy use.

The awards were officially handed over by Emalahleni Local Municipality on February 16, which implemented the competition through funding from the Department of Electricity and Energy (DEE) under the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (EEDSM) grant.

The initiative forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to promote responsible energy usage, environmental awareness and sustainable practices among learners across Emalahleni.

The MMC for Technical Services, Clr Thabang Mathebula, congratulated the winning schools and commended learners and educators for their commitment to promoting responsible energy usage.

Learners and educators of Hlangu-Phala Primary School proudly receive their award for winning the 2025/2026 Energy Efficiency Schools Competition.

He emphasised that the competition is not only about winning prizes but also about cultivating long-term energy-saving habits that contribute to environmental protection, reduced electricity costs and a more sustainable future for Emalahleni.
