Robbers got away with undisclosed amount of money

A second security guard was shot five times. Three women and a child was also injured during the shootout this morning.

Robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of money during this morning’s robbery that left a security guard dead and several others wounded.

According to the latest information, security guards from IZI Security stopped at the bank in Eadie Street around 08:28 and were approached by three armed men.

The men demanded the money and randomly started firing shots, fatally wounding a guard.

One of the guards was shot five times, a teacher was shot in her leg, and two other women sustained injuries.

A 12-year-old learner from Siyabuswa, caught in the crossfire while with the teacher, fled into the bank for safety but sustained abrasions during the ordeal.

Three vehicles were damaged during the shootout.

The suspects fled in a silver Volkswagen Jetta.
