The Radebe and Mathobela families are mourning the loss of their son, grandson and family member, Vusimuzi Radebe, who was killed in a mob attack in Lynnville on September 19.

According to an official family statement, Radebe was walking home from his grandmother’s residence in KwaGuqa to Lynnville when the incident occurred.

The family said that during his journey, he was reportedly stopped and questioned about where he lived and where he was coming from.

Radebe allegedly told those questioning him that he lived in Kempton Park and had been visiting his grandmother in KwaGuqa.

According to the family, assumptions were then made about him due to recent violent incidents that had occurred in Kempton Park.

They allege that instead of verifying the information, a group of people assaulted Radebe, resulting in his death at the scene.

The incident has left relatives searching for answers and demanding accountability.

In their statement, the family described Radebe as a quiet individual who did not speak much and said he was walking home when his life was cut short.

“His life should never have ended because of an assumption,” the family said.

The family explained that Radebe’s parents had recently returned to eMalahleni after retirement and were staying in Lynnville. They described his death as a devastating loss that has shattered the family.

Now, relatives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who saw Radebe travelling from KwaGuqa towards Lynnville on the day of his death to come forward with information.

The family hopes that witnesses can help investigators establish exactly what happened and identify those responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the family at 071 357 0950 or 069 323 2712.

Before the deceased was identified by family members, police had opened an investigation into the incident.

According to the police, an officer who responded to the scene on September 19, received information about a mob justice incident in Seme Street, Lynnville.

Upon arrival, police allegedly found a group of community members gathered at the scene. A community representative pointed out the body of an unidentified man who was lying on his back and partially clothed, with visible bruises on his body.

According to reports, the community representative informed police that members of the community had allegedly assaulted the deceased. However, the representative reportedly could not provide details regarding the circumstances that led to the assault as they were not present when the incident began.

At the time, the deceased had not yet been identified. Police were reportedly informed that the man was believed to be from Kempton Park.

All relevant role-players were summoned to the scene, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death was launched.
