Witbank Aircraft Association brings Oshkosh Air Show experience to eMalahleni
The event took place when Karl Jensen and members of the Experimental Aircraft Association came to Witbank Airfield on November 19 to share their Oshkosh 2022 experience, which included a flight in a bomber.
On November 19, Karl Jensen and members of the Experimental Aircraft Association came to Witbank Airfield to share their unforgettable experience at Oshkosh 2022, which was organised by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
For South Africans, the Oshkosh experience was arranged by Neil Bowden from Air Adventures.
Oshkosh in Wisconsin remains the largest aviation celebration in the world.
Karl spent his time at Oshkosh in Camp Scholler, which is a tented South African camp area.
Karl shared some of these unforgettable experiences at Oshkosh, which included a flight in a bomber.
Some of the statistics at Oshkosh 2022 included 3 226 show planes, including 1 375 registered vintage aircraft, 1 156 homebuilt aircraft, 369 war birds, 137 ultralights, 87 seaplanes, 77 aerobatic aircraft, and 25 rotor aircraft.
The attendance this year was approximately 650 000 people, which exceeded the previous record of 642 000 in 2019.
At Wittman Regional Airport alone, there were 18 684 aircraft operations in the 11-day period, which is an average of 121 takeoffs/landings per hour when the airport was open.
Following the presentation, EAA and WAA members gathered around the braai and shared a very memorable evening.
