Kwa-Guqa mother watches in horror as son is snatched over alleged debt
People who find themselves kidnapped are advised to cooperate and do what perpetrators instruct them to do to ensure their safety.
A terrifying kidnapping incident occurred in Kwa-Guqa when a young man was dragged out of his home by three men.
A woman told the police that it was around 14:10 on August 18 when the gang forced their way into her house in Moela Street.
She said they grabbed her son by his pants and dragged him into their car, which they had parked outside.
When she demanded answers on why and where they were taking him, the kidnappers reportedly claimed they were taking him to the police station because he owed them money.
However, despite their claims, the victim was never delivered to the police, and no one has information on his whereabouts.
A case of kidnapping was opened at Vosman SAPS, and investigations are underway.
SAPS shared safety tips to help keep victims safe if they find themselves in such situations.
“In many instances, injuries and deaths are the result of inconsiderate actions taken by the victims themselves. There are certain guidelines that could increase a victim’s chances of survival and decrease the risk of humiliation, discomfort and injury,” SAPS said.
According to SAPS, as a victim you must:
• Do everything the perpetrators tell you to do.
• Try at all times to maintain your pride, dignity and self-respect.
• Keep your brain active by playing mind games, daydreaming and reading whatever you are offered.
• aintain your physical strength and eat the food provided by your captor(s).
• Try to maintain a sense of humour, but do not ridicule the aggressors.
• Try to remain orientated regarding your movements, directions, time and place.
• Try to maintain a routine and remain fit, if circumstances permit.
• Allow yourself to be led by your captor(s).
• Try to remain cool and calm.
