Cellphone snatched in Klipfontein after stranger initiates conversation

A woman had her cellphone stolen after being approached by a stranger who engaged her in conversation before making off with the device.
According to the police report, the incident occurred in Klipfontein at around 14:20 on September 20.
The victim was reportedly walking home when a man approached, greeted her and struck up a conversation.
She reported that she recognised the suspect as someone she had seen around the area before and continued talking to him.
During their interaction, the woman reportedly received a notification on her phone. Police reported that when she pulled it out to check the notification, the suspect suddenly grabbed the cellphone and ran away from the scene.
Stay vigilant in public
Authorities have urged community members to stay vigilant when approached by strangers and to be cautious when using valuables in public places.
The identity of the suspect remains unknown, and police had not made any arrests at the time of publication. Investigations are ongoing.
