Siphesihle will be flying to New York

Young artist Siphesihle Kunene will be singing on a bigger stage to showcase his talent in front of talent scouts. He will be flying to New York in July.

While Siphesihle Kunene dreamed of taking his talent to a higher level, he has not in his wildest dreams imagined singing on a bigger stage to showcase his talent. That has become a reality as he will be flying to New York in July. It all started while he was still young singing at church and events while in Eswatini before the family moved to South Africa. His family settled at Carletonville, then his father got a job at Arnot and last year the family settled in Ga-Nala (Kriel) after his father secured a job there. Way back in his early childhood he was involved in a lot of singing as well as acting, but not professionally. Later he took his singing talent to another level and joined the 33 and Me Talent Agency based in Sandton. He was invited for auditions at Silver Star Casino in Krugersdorp. The ultimate prize was to perform in front of an audience in New York from July 17 to 24 in front of 300 talent scouts from all over the world, while others were awarded scholarships to attend the New York Film Academy.

“During the auditions, one had to be strong as they were done during the night, and we were promised that we will receive call backs at around midnight and I waited very anxiously, not sure about the results. It was not until 03:00 that the call finally came. I had mixed emotions and the next morning my dad took me to Sandton, and we were told that we need to arrange our own sponsors for travelling and accommodation,” said Siphesihle.

Siphesihle believes that as a young person it is an opportunity of a lifetime to have such exposure to show his talent to the world. He has already started looking for sponsors with the support of his family. He said it looks promising at this stage, but he still has a long way to go and is still looking for sponsors.

“At this stage, it is important to stay hopeful, trust myself and stay focused,” Siphesihle concluded.
