Police conduct surprise school searches

“One learner was found in possession of dagga and an arrest was affected".

Tsakane – Police officers at Tsakane SAPS conducted surprise school searches at JE Malepe Secondary School and Geluksdal Secondary School.

The searches were conducted first thing in the morning, before learning and teaching started.

This was part of a school safety programme lead by Social Crime Prevention and Station Commander Col Johan Maass in Geluksdal.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu, says the aim of these random searches is to prevent learners from bringing illegal things onto the school premises.

“These include drugs and dangerous weapons.

“During the searches the police found dagga, toy guns and benzine.

“One learner, found in possession of dagga, was arrested.

Mngomezulu says they worked with other stakeholders including the metro police, members of the CPF, Boksburg Department of Correctional Service, Department of Community Safety and members of the school’s safety committee.
