No signs of slowing down for master athlete
He has built a formidable track record for himself.
Master athlete Moeketsi Moagi is taking strides to get closer to the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sweden.
Moagi won gold medals in the 800m and 1 500m races at the Gauteng North Masters Athletics Championship at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday. He also won gold in the 3 000m steeplechase, for which he holds the record.
“It was a tough competition, but we put in a great effort and we got the best results,” he said.
Moagi won the 3 000m steeplechase at the African Masters Championships in November, in 11:35 and he is therefore the current African Masters champion in this event in his age group (50-54).
His short-term goal is to compete at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sweden on August 13 in the 3 000m steeplechase event.
“I need some assistance with covering the costs of my flights and accommodation,” he explained.
Moagi is a highly accomplished athlete in middle distance track athletics in his age group.

• 2021 Mandela Marathon 10km – gold medal
• 2022 Waterfall 10km race – gold medal
• 2023 Central Gauteng Masters Championships – gold medals, 1 500m and 3 000m steeplechase
• 2023 Gauteng North Masters Championships – Gold medals, 1 500m and 3 000m steeplechase
• 2023 Athletics Vaal Triangle Masters meet – gold medal, 3 000m
• 2023 South African Masters Athletics Championships – silver medal, 3000m and bronze medal, 1 500m
In 2016, Moeketsi was able to raise sufficient sponsorship to compete at the World Masters Athletics.
