The suspect’s room was thoroughly searched.

Dunnottar – The EMPD Community Liaison Unit and Specialised Task Team officers, in conjunction with the SAPS, arrested a 29-year-old man on Monday for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The officers received information about a man suspected of having an unlicensed firearm from Crime Intelligence, leading them to a residence on Rhodes Avenue.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the man was identified and found in possession of a 9mm firearm, with the serial number filed off, and three live rounds.

“Officers thoroughly searched the room he resides in, and on top of the wardrobe was a shoebox containing eight used shotgun cartridges. The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“All the recovered items were booked for safekeeping and further investigation,” she explained.
