Residents urged to prepare as Rand Water announces phased maintenance across Ekurhuleni
Residents across parts of Ekurhuleni are being advised to store water and reduce usage as Rand Water carries out scheduled maintenance in phases between May and July.
Residents in parts of Ekurhuleni, including Alberton, Thokoza and Germiston, have been urged to prepare for planned water-related maintenance work by Rand Water, scheduled for May 29 to July 17, which may result in reduced supply and low water pressure in affected areas.
The City of Ekurhuleni confirmed that the maintenance will be carried out in phases, with different areas affected at different times depending on the nature of the work being done on key supply systems.
Rand Water said the programme includes Eskom-related maintenance at the Zuikerbosch and Palmiet pump stations, as well as infrastructure upgrades involving the replacement of raw water motors at Zuikerbosch.
The city warned that the water supply will be restored gradually after each maintenance window, and it may take time for full pressure to return, particularly in higher-lying areas.
Residents and businesses have been advised to store sufficient clean water in advance, reduce non-essential water use such as irrigation, car washing and pool topping, and monitor official communication channels for updates.
Water tankers will be deployed to affected areas where necessary, with locations and schedules to be announced closer to each maintenance period.
