EAST RAND – Every year Emperors Palace gives local youth an opportunity to take part in a learnership as part of the Peermont Education Trust (PET) programme.
Learners were given an opportunity to work while they learn at one of Africa’s leading leisure and entertainment destinations, Emperors Palace.
The experience they gained is invaluable and will assist them in finding jobs in the all important hospitality and tourism sector, one of the highest growing sectors in the economy.
The Lesedi Programme offered a variety of courses, including Professional Cookery, Food & Beverage and Front Office Reception. The Trust also offered a three year trade for electricians, spending a total of R2 million within a year.
The Trustees provide life skills training for students and assist them with job seeking skills, that ensures a positive and successful outcome of the programme.
Through this training, South Africa’s skills shortage is being addressed and the unemployed youth are being given a chance to become gainfully employed, making a positive contribution to the economy in a tangible way.
“As a group, Peermont approaches Corporate Social Investment and Responsibility (CSIR) as an integral part in the way we do business, and all our initiatives are aligned with the group’s vision and mission.
“We commend our Trustees and administrative staff on the selfless work they continue to do and are proud to announce that a total of R30 million was disbursed to a wide variety of under-served communities through our Trusts and CSIR initiatives throughout the year,” said Vusi Zwane, Peermont Corporate Affairs and CSI Executive.
“The learners have a wonderful opportunity to learn the essential skills that will give them an advantage in the workplace. In this way they can start at the bottom and learn the nuts and bolts of the business before broadening their career opportunities,” Concluded Jenny Findlay, Trust Manager.
The opportunity benefitted Alberton, Thokoza and Katlehong youth, who were happy to receive certificates.
The Peermont Education Trust is sponsored by Emperors Palace.
