Help Cause 4 Paws continue to help animals in distress

Your help will go a long way in helping animals in Jackson informal settlement.

Wisdom Chigayo, manager at Cause 4 Paws NPO in Jackson informal settlement said the community can play their part in helping them take care of the distressed animals.

Currently, with 14 dogs in their care, the organisation has helped over 2 500 dogs and cats in the area and the surroundings. He said they are always in need of donations like payment of veterinary clinic bills, dog and cat food, blankets, medical supplies, cleaning material and previously loved kennels.

“We have so many stories that we can tell of pet owners abusing their pets. One pet owner, while drunk, stabbed a dog in the eye and another poured boiling water mixed with oil over a dog. This is a horrible experience for these pets hence they need the love, which we are providing. Without donations, these poor pets will suffer and will not survive.

“Also last week one of our Pawrangers was shot during an attempted robbery at a spaza shop in the area. If it is not people abusing animals, they are hurting other people. This is sad,” explained Wisdom.

Founder of Cause 4 Paws, Rene Parker said: “With the financial climate we have lost so many donors and I’m so scared of losing my clinic. We have over 2 500 animals in Jackson informal settlement. Last month we ran out of food for the dogs and cats.”

People may drop off food at Brackenhurst Vet, Hennie Albert’s Vet or The Methodist Church in Alberton.

Alternatively, give Rene a call on 083 414 6144, she will collect.

Cause 4 Paws’ main focus is sterilisation, vaccinations, medical care, education and feeding over 2 500 dogs and cats in Jackson’s Drift.

Cause 4 Paws Care Centre and Clinic is situated in the Jackson’s Drift Township. With over 33 000 residents and over 2 500 animals they help by sterilising, vaccinating and deworming the animals.

“We also have severe parvo outbreaks and biliary. Sadly Jacksons is a very violent informal settlement, for not only animals but residents as well, especially the elderly. Poisonings of pets is horrifying. To break into each other’s shacks or if one resident has a disagreement with another, they take it out on the pets, very sad,” said Parker.

“Our number one passion is sterilising, for this helps us save hundreds of lives. When a resident gives us permission to sterilise their pet, we put in a kennel, blankets and a tyre with large bowl so the pet does not knock the water over, and a large bucket of food monthly. Educating them on the care and safety is also our main focus.”

They go through 2 000kg of dog food a month and around 200kg of cat food. They have medications, cleaning materials and F10 to ensure that viruses are not spread.

“When animals are surrendered or when mother dogs are poisoned we work closely with A New Hope Dog Rescue in Daleside and Woodrock in Hennops. We also have a lovely foster mommy that takes these animals in and then once they are healed it is off to the rescue.

“Dealing with a rescue is vital for me as the correct paperwork is done and signatures are required for potential owners to promise to bring them back at five to six months for sterilisation. We do the vaccinations and the rescue goes far and beyond doing home checks to insure the animals go into a good, safe and loving home,” said Parker.

Paws 4 Cause also hosts dip and deworm days every six to eight weeks to keep the ticks and fleas at bay.
They need blankets, previously loved kennels, bowls collars and leads.

“Donations are vital to our survival in these harsh times as we have staff salaries, medications, cleaning materials, veterinary clinic bills, Pawrangers’ pocket money and so much more.
