Schoeman and Bekker face charges including murder, fraud, and theft. Bekker, Murray’s daughter, is accused of involvement in her mother’s death and was arrested days before Schoeman, who was caught hiding in South Hills.

Cheslin John testifies:

At the July 6 proceedings, the defence attorney called up a witness who was to testify on behalf of the accused. Cheslin John, who is an inmate at Boksburg Prison (the same prison Schoeman is held at) on a separate case, was in court to testify on circumstances surrounding vehicles that were taken from the deceased’s Verwoerdpark home.

Asked how he came to know of the vehicles, John said: “Anthony asked me if I knew a person who could buy a car, and my response to him was yes, I know a guy called Adam.”

John then testified that he facilitated a meeting between the buyer (Adam) and Anthony. Asked who was present when Anthony asked about a potential buyer, John replied: “Accused one and two, and the deceased (Murray).”

John told the court negotiations for the vehicle sale took place at the buyer’s (Adam) Lambton property, in Germiston. He also said he is not aware of what was discussed in the meeting because he was not part of the negotiations for the sale of the vehicle.

“I assume the vehicle was sold because Anthony told me that they want to sell another one,” testified John.

The stolen vehicles were recovered around the time of both accused arrests. The mysterious man named Anthony is understood to have been in a relationship with accused two (Bekker) shortly before she got into a relationship with Schoeman.

Anthony disappeared in 2023, and his family are still searching for him. July’s 6 proceedings were postponed for further evidence. The accused remain in custody.
