A high-speed police chase ends in a shootout in Alrode, with three suspects reportedly shot dead.

Three suspects have reportedly been shot dead following a high-speed chase and shootout with SAPS and Gauteng Traffic Police in Alrode, Alberton, on Thursday afternoon, August 20.

A heavy law enforcement presence is currently at the scene, with Vereeniging Road closed and motorists being diverted via Bosworth Street.

The Alberton Record reporters observed bodies at the scene.

According to Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Sisanda Manitshana, the suspects had just committed an armed business robbery before being pursued by police.

Firearms have reportedly been recovered at the scene.

The scene remains active, with traffic building up in the surrounding area. Motorists are urged to avoid Vereeniging Road and use alternative routes where possible.

SAPS has not yet officially confirmed the number of suspects killed or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
