WATCH: Registration deadline looming for spaza shops and food-handling businesses
The City of Ekurhuleni is calling on all spaza shops and food-business handling to visit their nearest CCC office to register.
The City of Ekurhuleni calls on all spaza shop owners and food-handling businesses to register their businesses amidst the looming February 28 deadline. Registrations take place between 08:00 and 16:30.
MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, Nomadlozi Nkosi, called on spaza shop owners and other food-handling businesses to register.
“We encourage shop owners to do the right thing. Local businesses must take up space and ensure they are compliant. This contributes to boosting the township and local economy while ensuring that they keep their business afloat within the laws of the land,” she said.

To register, owners must submit their completed applications along with the necessary documentation at their nearest customer care centre.
The required documents include:
• Completed business licence application form;
• Appropriate zoning certificate or written consent approval;
• Certificate of Acceptability (health standards);
• Approved building plan and occupancy certificate;
• Certified copy of the title deed or a letter from the landlord if not owned;
• Identity document (for South African residents);
• Work permit or letter from the Department of Home Affairs (for non-South African residents);
• Registration with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC);
• Latest municipal account statement for the business address;
• Tax clearance certificate from SARS.
