Alberton Lions Club support cancer awareness at CANSA Shavathon
From cupcakes to haircuts, the community rallied at the CANSA Shavathon to support cancer awareness and research.

The Alberton Lions, keen to join the effort to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, support, and education, participated in the CANSA Shavathon at Bracken City from 08:00 to 13:00 on March 1.
The event drew strong local support, with community members helping to raise funds in several ways. Cupcakes, sold throughout the day, were a key feature of the fundraiser.
Locals bought cupcakes, donated them or contributed funds to buy cupcakes for the event.
In addition to the sweet treats, participants showed their support by shaving their heads or spraying their hair with vibrant colours, making a visual statement in support of cancer awareness.

The donation was R50 for adults and R25 for children under 12.
CANSA representative Nikki Borman was also on-site, offering haircuts in the same spirit as the Alberton Lions Club, who also provided head-shaving services. Both groups allowed participants a chance to participate in the hair-raising support for cancer awareness.
Melinda Strydom, the chairperson of the Alberton Lions Club, shared her enthusiasm for the annual event, “Every year, we do cupcakes for CANSA or HOPE. We collect cupcakes from the community and sell them for them.”
This year, the organisation set a goal to sell 680 cupcakes to raise R6 800 for CANSA.
The Alberton Lions continue to make a meaningful impact in their community, supporting vital causes such as cancer research and education.
