Cantare Children’s Choir celebrates local heroes

In a heartwarming event filled with music and inspiration, the Cantare Children's Choir honoured nine local heroes who are making a difference through art, service, and dedication.

The Cantare Children’s Choir recently hosted a special evening to honour local heroes who have made a difference through donations, service, and artistic contributions.

The event, held at the Alberton Civic Centre, brought together community members dressed in style to celebrate these changemakers, with a focus on those using art to impact lives.

Nine individuals were recognised for their efforts, eight of whom have used various art forms to uplift and inspire the community.

Award winners for the evening are: back: Abri Venter, Tokoloho Mavuso (Haksul), Karen Jacobs, Marelize Venter who received the award on behalf of her mother, Antionette Venter better known as Tannie A, and Pieter le Roux. Front: Marietta Kruger (RSG), Maryna Clark and Irene Morrick.

The night began with an uplifting performance by the Cantare Children’s Choir, setting a celebratory tone. The choir’s songs filled the hall with energy, emphasising the power of music to bring people together.

As the evening continued, heartfelt speeches shared the stories of the honourees, highlighting the profound impact of their work.

Those receiving awards were: Primea Excelentia: Antionette Venter (Tannie A), Corona Award: Maryna Clark, Irene Morrick, Karen Jacobs, Anna le Roux, Abri Venter, Marietta Kruger (RSG) and Tokoloho Mavuso (Haksul) with the Laureates Award going to Pieter Le Roux (former principal of Laerskool President Steyn.

The evening culminated with a special surprise. One of the recognised heroes led a musical jam, closing the event on a high note and leaving the audience in awe of the transformative power of art.

This memorable night served as a powerful reminder of how art, in its many forms, can foster unity, inspire change, and create lasting community bonds.
