Alberton Lions Club and UJ Optometry students offer free eye tests and screenings
Community members expressed their gratitude for the much-needed service.
Alberton Lions Club partnered with final-year optometry students from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) to conduct free eye tests at Ligstad in Alberton on March 15.
Ninety-five people underwent eye tests, while 86 individuals received diabetes screenings.
Fortunately, no urgent cases were identified during the clinic.
Many attendees expressed their gratitude for the initiative.
“One lady specifically wanted to thank us for the polite way we dealt with queries beforehand as well,” said Sandy King Alberton Lions Club.

This initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the club to provide essential healthcare services to the community. Their first eye clinic took place in August 2022, where they tested 43 people.
Since then, they have aimed to host clinics every four months, depending on the availability of UJ’s final-year optometry students.
Those requiring further medical assistance were referred to the appropriate healthcare providers.
Alberton Lions Club continues to make a meaningful impact in the community, ensuring accessible eye care and health screenings for those in need.
